Idukki Dam, Kerala – Where Nature Meets Innovation

The Idukki Dam is built on the Periyar River, in the ravine between the Kuravan and Kurathi Hills in Kerala, India. At 167.68 metres, it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia and third tallest arch dam. It was constructed and is owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board. It supports a 780 MW hydroelectric power station. It is a 4 hours drive from Kochi.

The Idukki reservoir consists of two dams- the Arch Dam and the Cheruthoni Dam. You can take a buggy ride to see both the dams or you walk the entire stretch of the dams.

Photography is strictly prohibited here because of security issues. However, you can go to the view point and capture some beautiful shots of the dams. The view is absolutely calm and soothing. 😌😌
