ELEPHANT BREEDING CENTER, CHITWAN, NEPAL

The Elephant Breeding Center in Chitwan trains young calves each year to prepare them for work. 🐘🐘🐘

The calves are trained when they are between 2 and 4 years old. During this time, the calves learn vocal commands from their mahouts to assist them in their future tasks. Captive and trained elephants are maintained by National Parks and Global Conservation efforts, mainly for wildlife viewing and jungle safaris.

Ronaldo, the elephant with the white tusks, is a wild elephant, and he is the only one who is not chained. All the other elephants and their calves are chained. Ronaldo mates with all the female elephants. He is considered dangerous, and even the mahouts keep a safe distance from him.

The elephants are fed a special treat called elephant momos, made of paddy rice, molasses, and salt. Watching the mother and baby elephants interact is a heartwarming sight.

Visiting this center is a must on your trip to Chitwan.
