DURBAR SQUARE, KATHMANDU

There are three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. All three are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is a lively place filled with activity all day long.

The main buildings feature intricate architecture, and the area is often called “the Museum of Temples” due to its more than 50 temples. On either side of the square, you can find small shops selling handicrafts, paintings, and other local items. The streets are lined with vendors offering gifts and souvenirs like keychains, magnets, Buddha idols, shells, and beaded jewelry. This location was also featured in the 1970s Bollywood movie ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna.
