Dholkal Ganesh is located in Dantewada district of Chhatisgarh at an altitude of 3000 feet above sea level. The trekking route to reach the idol spans approximately 5 kms one way. The initial part of the trek involves walking through dense forests at a steady incline throughout.⛰️⛰️ The last 150 to 200 metres of the trek is extremely difficult and involves climbing some steep rocks.🪨🪨
It is recommended that you begin the trek as early as 7 am in the morning 🌄🌄 so that you escape the heat and are able to return to the base by noon. It is also advisable to hire a guide to help you navigate through the forests. The most daunting segment of the trek is scaling the mountain and descending to the peak where the Ganesh Idol is positioned. 😢😢There is hardly any place to keep your feet. So this last part has to be completed bare feet and with utmost caution. Nonetheless, the satisfaction of reaching the idol and the breathtaking views from the peak make the effort worthwhile. 🙂🙂
When I decided to embark on the Dholkal Trek, I didnt know what to anticipate. As with every trek, i was apprehensive about my ability to endure it. At one point, I even proposed skipping the trek in favor of another destination on the itinerary. I am glad I didn’t give up. Thanks to my guide Anirudra Sarkar who was constantly supportive and motivated me throughout my journey.
Do not leave Chhatisgarh without visiting Dholkal. It is an exhilerating experience. 😊😊
