Cruising through the canals – Munroe Island

Munroe Island is a cluster of eight islands located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River, in Kollam district in Kerala. The islands are separated by small water channels and lakes. Munroe Island is famous for the Kallada Boat Race held here during the Onam season.

A canal cruise is the best way to navigate through these narrow waterways and canals. It is a 2-hour ride on a canoe. After passing through several canals, you enter the vast Ashtamudi lake where you can see the mangrove plantations which is the main attraction here.
